10-28-21 Media Inquiry

Please see Dr. Azar’s statement in response to a media inquiry from the press pertaining to our recent closures.
“It is extremely unusual to have cancelled school for two days this early in the school year however; the safety of our students and staff warranted it given the road conditions and power outages.   The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has not approved districts to use a remote platform for these instances.  Thus, we will need to make up these days in June.  Nevertheless, as we have become accustomed to, New England weather is at times the most beautiful in the fall, but, as we saw with this most recent weather event it can also be somewhat destructive. I would be remiss if I did not give much appreciation to our local police, fire and town crews for the work they do to keep us safe. We applaud our National Grid folks for their work to restore power. Thanks also to our parents, staff and students for handling the disruption in a positive way. At this time we are scheduled for a normal start time for schools to be opened for Friday, October 29th.”
